Saxon Away - 29th May

 Saxon v Priory  -  29th May 2024

Our first match of the season saw members of the Priory team negotiating their way across the A140 to pit their wits against our fellow bowlers of the Saxon team.

Saxon won the toss and decided to take the jack for the first end of the 16-end match.

The match started under cloudy skies with the late evening sun attempting to break through giving a little hope of better weather to come. A light shower failed to dampen the spirits of either team, and the match was played in good spirits against the background of a building of rooks roosting in the nearby trees and the occasional attempts at, what sounded like, bob major, coming from St Mary the Virgin.

Howard Fuller, playing only his third game of bowls made his debut for the club on a green which looked heavy but at times played much faster than expected.

The result, as last year, finished 2 rinks all but unlike our match in 2023 this time Saxon came out overall winners with a score of Saxon 62, Priory 45.

A comment received from one of the Saxon skips was “Your green is shorter than ours which is difficult for me but I’m looking forward to coming to your place in August. I remember last year you put on a really good spread with homemade cake!!”
